Kabardino-Balkaria Medical University of Nalchik State was created in 1957 on the basis of Pedagogical College. It is one of the leading Universities in Russia and it is included in 100 best Universities in Russia. Kabardino-Balkaria Medical University of Nalchik State was given Certificate of Merit and Medal from State Duma for its outstanding services and achievements. The University is located in the North Caucasus, Nalchik, surrounded by scenic spots, including the world-famous Elbrus Chegem waterfalls and Blue Lake.
In 1966, the Faculty of Medicine was created and first 100 students were accepted. There were two departments at the Faculty: General Anatomy and Biology. In 1968, separate academic block was given for this Faculty. Since the early 70-s, the Faculty has started accepting foreign students from all the corners of the world. During these years clinical base was extended greatly. Nowadays, strong theoretical base is created at the Faculty. At chemical and physical laboratories students are having different kinds of practice. What is more, all the students of the Faculty of General Medicine are offered to have practice at the best clinics of the city, which are provided with up – to – date equipment. There are many sanatoriums in Nalchik city, so the students successfully complete their practice and improve their practical skills in curing asthmatics. Some of the classes are conducted at the Internet class what makes educational process more effective.
In 1972, the first students graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine, 115 graduates received diplomas of doctors. In nearly 50 years (1966 - 2015), the Department has prepared more than 5,500 physicians in two specialties "Medicine" and "Dentistry".
During first five years since the foundation of the Faculty of Medicine, there have been established the following Departments: Biology and Histology, General and Morbid Anatomy, General and Morbid Physiology, Microbiology. Till 1977 there have already been 9 departments at the Faculty of Medicine.
In 1993 the Faculty of Dentistry was created.
In 2010 was established the Faculty of Nursing. In a year, the University was celebrating its 45th anniversary.
Currently, Kabardino-Balkaria State University holds the 11th place among classical universities in the Russian Federation.
The students are offered to improve their knowledge in huge scientific library with study hall.
There are 67 departments at the University. The Faculty of General Medicine consists of 17 departments. The students are offered to get both undergraduate and postgraduate education at the University. Academic staff of the University consists of 870 highly qualified lecturers, including more than 184 Doctors and 625 Candidates of Science. Sufficient number of textbooks, teaching aids, devices and instruments allow to conduct classes at the highest level of modern methods. Till the present moment, Kabardino-Balkaria State University has trained 14500 students, 5500 of them are graduates from the Faculty of General Medicine.

Accommodation
Students are offered different kinds of rooms, which may vary in size. Usually, two or three students can share the room. All the rooms are comfortable, fully furnished for comfortable living. All the students’ hostels are well-heated. The rooms are provided with the Internet access, TV set and telephone. Facilities for students are organized on the sharing basis, these are: bathrooms and kitchens. There are special areas for students where they can socialize and meet new friends. All the students’ hostels are under protection of the police during 24 hours. All the students’ hostels are very closely situated to the University, it takes some minutes to get there on foot.
